First Student Awarded Transportation Contract for Lincoln County School District

Newport, OR – February 13, 2019 – At last night’s board meeting, First Student was awarded the contract to provide school transportation for Lincoln County School District. Transportation with First Student begins on July 1, 2019.

According to Rich Belloni, the Facilities Director of Lincoln County School District, “The decision to go with First Student was based upon their experience with routing software and GPS tracking integration with student transportation. Parents will have an online portal that will allow them to track their student’s bus to and from school. New buses will each be outfitted with four onboard digital video cameras. In addition, the Evaluation Committee was impressed with the training for all staff, not just the drivers.”

First Student will host their initial Meet and Greet lunch (pre-hiring event) for drivers and all other transportation staff between 11:00 and 1:00 on February 16, 2019, at Toledo Elementary School with other dates to be announced as they are scheduled. Current drivers will be paid at or above their current wage in addition to a signing bonus. New drivers will receive a starting wage higher than the current starting wage and a signing bonus paid over the first year of employment. First Student hopes to hire all current drivers, who are in good standing with the district and meet their qualifications, to be a part of their team.
