LCSD is proud to continue providing breakfast and lunch to all students, at no charge to families, under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) thanks to grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
As part of these programs, we are required to follow USDA and ODE Child Nutrition Program rules for nutrition service programs. Therefore, the District’s wellness policy (EFA) requires the following:
All food and beverages offered on the school campus are encouraged to meet the nutrition standards set by the USDA and the Oregon Smart Snacks Standards (linked here:OR Smart Snacks at a Glance). This includes, but is not limited to, celebrations, parties and classroom snacks brought by parents. School staff should also consider student and staff allergies before allowing items to be served. Please contact your school office before bringing food items to share with students in a classroom.
Food and beverages advertised or sold to students on campus during the school day must meet or exceed the Oregon Smart Snacks Standards. This includes, but is not limited to, vending machines, school stores, snack or food carts, and fundraising.
All fundraisers must comply with Oregon Smart Snacks Standards up to half an hour after the end of the last school day activity.
Food items meeting the Smart Snacks Guidelines may be sold during the school day half an hour after lunch service ends.
Food and beverages sold outside of the school day are not required to meet these guidelines but it is encouraged.
Thank you for helping us continue to provide meals at no charge to local families by following these guidelines. Questions may be directed to your school’s principal or to the Nutrition Services Department at 541-336-2146.
