“Boy, I’m so proud to say that I’m a volunteer at Crestview Heights Elementary School.” As a member of the Senior Corps Foster Grandparent program, Beverly Trute enjoys working one-on-one with children. She recalls a student that she was able to connect with even on his worst days, “He put his little hand in mine.” Senior Corps volunteers serve in a variety of programs throughout the Lincoln County School District. The Foster Grandparent program encourages adults ages 55+ to guide children at a critical time in their lives. Beverly agrees, “I would tell anybody who is wondering where their life is going to take their knowledge, experience, compassion and to give back to their community.” Alicia Lucke, the local Program Supervisor for Senior Corps notes, “Grandma Beverly is a dear (person). Senior Corps members make such a difference in their community.” Ms. Olson, a Crestview Heights teacher, fondly remembers requesting, “Can she (Beverly) just be in my room?” Beverly certainly agrees, “I love the continuity. I’m able to be with the kids that really need it.”

Reflecting on her time spent volunteering, Beverly concludes that she loves working with children the best. “I feel good about having a legacy of connecting with children.  They may not remember me or my face, but they will remember someone who loved them unconditionally.”

“Vaya, estoy muy orgulloso de decir que soy voluntario en la Escuela Primaria Crestview Heights”. Como miembro del programa de abuelos adoptivos de Senior Corps, Beverly Trute disfruta trabajar individualmente con los niños.
