Lincoln County School District Safety Coordinator Sue Graves led an instructional training and live test of the district’s newly installed Blue Box warning system at Taft Elementary School. The Blue Box is a safety device designed for use during serious threats or acts of violence; when pressed, it immediately triggers two simultaneous notifications to speed emergency response and protect students and staff.
How the Blue Box works
- A pre-recorded Code Red Lockdown announcement plays throughout the school the moment a Blue Box is activated.
- At the same time, the system signals the alarm company, which notifies 911 and requests police dispatch to the school.
Taft’s training and test were part of LCSD’s phased rollout of the Blue Box program. Sam Case served as the district pilot site for the system last year, and with the voter-approved $73.3 million bond renewal in May 2025, Blue Box devices will be installed across all LCSD schools.
