The 2nd Annual Lincoln County School District Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) Tournament brought together over 80 students from across the county on February 24th at the Newport Public Library.
Teams from Lincoln City, Newport, Waldport, Siletz, and Eddyville competed in both the 3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade divisions, showcasing their literary knowledge and teamwork skills. The Wild Marshmallows team from Crestview Heights won first place in the 3rd-5th grade division while the Avengers 2.0 from Crestview Heights won the 6th–8th grade division.
District Media Specialist Michelle Cottrell organized the event with support from school coaches, administrators, and eight Newport High School Honor Society volunteers. “An event like this is one of the things I appreciate the most about our community,” noted Cottrell. “Being able to see kids connect with kids from across the district in a literacy event that celebrates grit and hard work is truly phenomenal.”
Special thanks to our school coaches, Newport Public Library, and all the amazing volunteers who made this celebration of reading possible!
