Several coyotes that show no fear of humans have been frequenting the area around Taft 7-12 High School, Taft Elementary School, and Oregon Coast Community College in Lincoln City. The school district is working with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon State Police, and Lincoln City Police to keep students and staff safe on campus.

Please use caution in these areas and follow the safety tips below, provided by the ODFW, especially if your children walk to or from school. 

• Walk with a group. Small children should not walk alone.
• Keep pets on a leash.

If you encounter a coyote:

• Do not run. Back away slowly.
• Give it a way of escape: Do not corner a coyote. Give it an opportunity to make a way of escape.
• Make noise. Scare the coyote away. Raise your voice, yell, or shout. Clap your hands, wave your arms, stomp your feet. Scare the animal using a whistle, air horn, homemade clapper, or by banging things together.
• Throw items. If the coyote approaches, throw rocks or other objects at it.

Varios coyotes que no muestran temor a los humanos han estado frecuentando el área alrededor de Taft 7-12 High School, Taft Elementary School, y Oregon Coast Community College en Lincoln City. • Haz ruido. Ahuyenta al coyote. Levanta la voz, grita o chilla. Aplauda, agite los brazos, pise fuerte. Asusta al animal utilizando un silbato, una bocina de aire, un badajo casero o golpeando cosas entre sí.
• Lanza objetos. Si el coyote se acerca, lánzale piedras u otros objetos.
