Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray sent an announcement to staff on Friday, stating, “This year, November 11, Veterans’ Day, falls on a Thursday.  Oregon public schools honor Veterans with a no-school day.  Oregon and LCSD are also experiencing a massive substitute shortage, and we anticipate November 12 is one of those days.  In consideration of the needs of LCSD staff who would bear the burden of such a shortage, the Superintendent proposed that November 12 will also be a no-school day as well. Thinking about how difficult this day could be for students in school situations where teachers and other staff are pressed to the limit, there is not enough reason to keep November 12 a student day.

In cooperation with positive labor-management with our certified and classified unions, the District will give this day to all staff as is, not to be made up at a later date.   This paid day is a response to the emotional health needs of our staff and students and one that the District can provide in appreciation for everyone’s efforts.”
