The Lincoln County School District is proud to announce these new additions to our Administrative team for the upcoming school year. We asked each of them two questions: First, “What are you most looking forward to in this new position?” Second, “What is in the professional background that has prepared you to accept this new position in the District?”

Richard Ceder, New Principal, Toledo Jr/Sr High in Toledo:

I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of Toledo as their Jr/Sr High School Principal! As Dr. Gray mentioned, I come from a small town, and while it is difficult to leave my current building, my heart has been set on finding the right fit for me as a leader.  I bring a great deal of energy and am excited to get to hear more about the wants and needs of the school, so we can continue to make a positive impact in the lives of our youth. Go, Boomers!

I have been assistant principal at Taft 7-12 for the last two years. Prior to that, I was Managing Coordinator for 16 school districts for Oregon GEAR UP, including Lincoln County SD, for two years. I also have 10 years of experience as a school counselor in Gaston.

Maddy Anderson, New Assistant Principal, Taft 7-12 in Lincoln City:

I’m excited to continue to work alongside many people that I’ve already come to know through my work with GEAR UP at Taft 7-12. I recently completed my administrator licensure and was looking for the next step in my career.  This position is perfect for me.

My background includes teaching in the classroom as well as serving as the GEAR UP school liaison for the Northern Oregon region.

 Sandi Battles, New Assistant Principal, Sam Case Elementary in Newport:

I am so excited to become a part of the Sam Case community to support staff, students, and families. The staff at Sam Case love their students and work hard for them. Students at Sam Case have a lot of energy and enthusiasm for their school and their learning. I can’t wait to join the team!

I have spent the last seven years as a teacher in Lincoln County. Most recently, I served as an Intervention Specialist at Crestview Heights in Waldport, where I focused on academic and behavior interventions for K-6 students. Prior to that, I was an English teacher at Waldport Middle School. Before moving to Lincoln County, I spent six years as an English Language Development Specialist in Las Vegas, NV and Clackamas, OR.

Lindsay DeVries, New Assistant Principal, and Athletic Director, Newport High School in Newport:

I am so excited to be here at Newport High School as the AP/AD.  I am looking forward to getting to know the students and faculty better not only through academics but through athletics and activities as well.

I have 14 years of coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, and middle school levels and have had various teaching positions over the last 7 years to include Family and Consumer Sciences, Alternative Education, and GED preparation. I am excited about the upcoming school year to begin.

Matt Hilgers, New Assistant Principal, and Athletic Director, Taft 7-12 in Lincoln City:

I am looking forward to continuing to support our students, staff, and the community, as well as working with Mr. Lupo and Ms. Anderson. I think our school is doing some great things and I hope to continue the strides already established. I’m excited to help develop a stronger student-athlete culture, and to implement systems that will help better our athletes and students.

I’ve worked in the Lincoln County School district since 2013, wearing several different “teacher” hats. I’ve also coached at Taft since 2013. In regards to my leadership background, I’ve been an athlete all my life, and a coach in my adult life, so I feel comfortable guiding coaches and student-athletes down a path that will lead towards success. In regards to my leadership background in education, I’ve worked at Taft for most of my teaching career, and have served as a middle school staff leader for a few years, so I know the students’ needs as well as the teacher needs. I look forward to serving my Taft family.

Dr. Mary Pitcher, New Assistant Principal, Oceanlake Elementary in Lincoln City

I am honored to join the Oceanlake Elementary family and serve the students, staff, and parents in this new role. I am excited to support our amazing teachers and I am committed to providing a safe, caring and engaging learning environment where all students can be successful.

In my 14-years in education, I have held many different positions from elementary teacher to principal. I have a

master’s degree in school administration as well as a doctorate in educational leadership. I believe my professional background and past leadership experiences have prepared me to step into this new assignment as assistant principal.
