Newport, OR – February 15, 2019 – Using funds raised from the sale of the works made by artists who are part of the Toledo Arts Guild, members generously purchased needed art supplies and gave a check of $600 to the Lincoln County School District. The plan is for each elementary school in the district to receive equal amounts of supplies and money to spend towards making art happen in our classrooms. Treasurer, Sylvia Hosie, explained why the Guild felt compelled to donate to young artists, “I feel that art class is essential. There is an emphasis on STEM nowadays, but really, it ought to be STEAM (science, technology, engineering, ART and mathematics). That “A” is just as important because art stimulates creative thought.”
She was joined in presenting the check by other local artists, Janet Runger, Alice Haga, and Dennis Moller to the Elementary Teaching and Learning Administrator Dr. Katie Barrett of LCSD who expressed her gratitude of the donation and ushered the members through a tour of the new Teaching and Learning Center. The Toledo Art Guild promotes artistic endeavors throughout the Lincoln County area with members who travel from outlying areas to join the Guild meetings and efforts such as the Toledo Art Walk. You can enjoy their works on display at the Newport Visual Arts Center in March.
We thank them for their support of our young artists throughout the Lincoln County School District.
