Current 1st Grade Teacher at Yaquina View
First grade Teacher at Yaquina View, Marcy Doyle, has been named by the Oregon Department of Education as the 2019 Regional Teacher of the Year. Ms. Doyle received the notification from Colt Gill, Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction yesterday but didn’t know about winning until this morning. The formal statewide press release was distributed today at 10 AM.
Her notification letter read as follows, “It is my privilege to congratulate you as a 2019 Oregon Regional Teacher of the Year! Your nomination for this award by your community and your selection by diverse representatives and education leaders from your region is an exceptional honor. As one of 13 Regional Teachers of the Year, you will be recognized in a statewide press announcement on Thursday, May 10 at 10 a.m.
You will also receive a $500 cash prize and will be entered as a candidate for the honor of 2019 Oregon Teacher of the Year which will be announced in September. You are an incredible example of the dedicated educators in Oregon. The Blue Ribbon Panel facilitated by Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District was inspired by your project-based learning opportunities for students and your urgency for more change agents in education.”
Marcy Doyle was surprised today during morning announcements from Principal, Kristin Becker, who congratulated her and secretly made sure her husband was there when the students learned about her award.
Her husband, JD Doyle said, “I’m so proud of my wife and this recognition came at just the right time. She knows she makes a difference but having this public acknowledgement during Teacher Appreciation Week will go a long way to honor her work.”
