LCSD Community Update

Dear LCSD Community,

The following is an update on what is happening in the school district.

This is an auspicious time of the year because Friday June 5th is the last day of the 2019-20 school year. We honor our Seniors this weekend with modified graduation events. We started this school year with hope and gusto and it just kept moving and flowing forward until March 16 when we were closed and hit a wall. While our staff worked so very hard to keep education moving ahead it has been incredibly difficult for them. It’s been hard on our kids and our families. I am so glad that our Meals program did so well and many community members showed up to help us. That’s the kind of community Lincoln County is.

At this moment in time, we are uncertain as to what school will be like in the fall. We hope to hear more soon from the state about what we can and cannot do and we will report that to you as soon as we know. I dislike uncertainty as much as anyone and yet, here we are.

  • Transportation Update (This is information for next school year for bus riders). 2020-2021 Student Transportation Update Summary:

  • Reconfiguration has been done of stops and routes for efficiency improvements.
  • 2-2-2: Maximum two pickup sites, two drop off sites, two bus changes per student per week.
  • Transportation changes must be submitted in writing to school offices no later than 11:00am.
  • Online registration will route bus service to and from home, if other bus service is required guardians must visit school during school site registration.
  • Bus service not used for 10 or more consecutive school days will be removed, parents/guardians may contact the school office for reinstatement (if needed).
  1. Please bring back our Library Books. Each school has communicated their procedures and process for getting your school materials back to the school and also how to get your materials and belongings back from the school. We are missing tons of books so PLEASE try to bring them back to school. You can also bring back books and Chromebooks during registration weeks in August.
  2. Except for people moving or graduating (for the most part) please keep your Chromebooks until further notice.
  3. High School Aged Speed and Agility Camps starting June 15. LCSD plans to do a soft reopening of our sports fields at the high schools starting June 15 for limited 2 week summer conditioning sports camps. We will be following all the required safety and health rules. An information sheet and sign up forms will be coming out soon. Please go to your school webpages for information on this great opportunity. We will evaluate additional opportunities as guidelines are updated in phases.
  4. Will there be Summer School? For a very limited number of students, there may be virtual summer school opportunities. This would be for some of our students with disabilities and students whose first language is not English. If you have a child in these areas the district will contact you. Summer School will offer online credit recovery opportunities for secondary.
  5. Mealsonthebus Program and Summer Lunch Program. The last day for the 3 in 1 meal boxes via bus and curbside pick up is Tuesday, June 9th. That would have been the last day for kids if we had not moved it back to Friday June 5th. Wednesday, June 10th starts our regular Summer Lunch Program with curbside delivery at Sam Case, Crestview Heights,, Toledo Jr. Sr. HS (until June 19th when it moves to Toledo Elementary) and Oceanlake. We will also provide a Summer Lunch Program at Siletz Charter School. Partner sites of Neighbors for Kids in Depoe Bay and Seashore Family Literacy center in Waldport will need to be contacted directly. Meals are served 12 to 1:30pm daily for students ages 1-18. Information and menus are posted here: https://lincoln.k12.or.us/2020/06/02/summer-meals-curbside-kick-off-june-10/
  6. Summer Resources We know of some amazing opportunities including a virtual sports camp (all LCSD qualify for full scholarship – more sign-up information will be sent out soon)  https://www.elitesportsacademy.org/, the iinvent camp is virtual this year and a lot of fun https://precollege.oregonstate.edu/iinvent-summer-camps, and summer reading programs at the Driftwood Public Library, Newport Public Library, Waldport Public Library, and Toledo Public Library have already started. Not all links have been updated on this page as they are provided as a courtesy and not hosted by LCSD so you may need to contact organizations directly with questions. Additions are welcome and you can send them to kristin.bigler@lincoln.k12.or.us . Website link here: https://lincoln.k12.or.us/resources/family/summer/
  7. Registration for 2020-2021 Registration will be North (Oceanlake, Taft Elementary, Taft 7-12) and East (Toledo Elementary, Toledo Jr. Sr. High)  8/11-8/13, West (Yaquina View, Sam Case Elementary, Newport Middle School, and Newport High) and South (Crestview Heights, Waldport Middle and High)  8/19-8/20. Check back to this page in August for the process: https://lincoln.k12.or.us/enroll/

That’s all the news for now. As our program for the Fall begins to take shape we will communicate with everyone about what that will look like. We really want our students and staff back on site and also safe and healthy.

Take care and stay well.
