Position Title: Community Connection Coordinator

Summary of Position and Project Goal: The VISTA will collaborate with Lincoln County School District and the community to develop a strong, multicultural HELP Center that assists students and families impacted by homelessness and economic disadvantages. The VISTA will expand partnerships to create a centralized location for youth and families to connect to resources and educational programming available in multiple languages and culturally sensitive. The work of the VISTA will alleviate poverty by building structures of support around both the student and family, resulting in greater school attendance, increased graduation rates and overall stability.

Essential Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Develop and expand community and business partnerships at the HELP Center
  • Create system that helps students and families navigate Center and community resources in their native languages
  • Plan services that match the linguistic and cultural needs of families and youth
  • Develop Center and volunteer program materials to be available in English and Spanish, and using visuals
  • Recruit, screen and train volunteers to assist students at the Center and in their school setting
  • Develop and coordinate general and specific trainings for various volunteer positions
  • Organize volunteer recognition activities
  • Collaborate on grant writing efforts and fundraising events

Marginal Responsibilities:

  • Participate in department meetings and trainings.

AmeriCorps VISTA Member Responsibilities:

  • Attend all Campus Compact of Oregon AmeriCorps VISTA required trainings and events
  • Complete and submit all Campus Compact of Oregon AmeriCorps VISTA required progress reports, timesheets, and other paperwork

Required Qualifications:

  • 18 years and older
  • Must have at least an Associate’s Degree or equivalent credits
  • Demonstrate a commitment to or willingness to explore issues of racial justice and equity
  • A U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
  • Able to serve full-time for 365 days
  • Ability to pass a criminal history background check
  • Site Specific Requirements:
    • Ability to pass drug test
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Event coordination experience
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office software

AmeriCorps VISTA Member Benefits:
